Bemærk at dette er et engelsk fund, og at dateringen kan variere fra den danske. Fundet er medtaget i SAMLINGEN som reference og for sammenligning.
An incomplete and heavily worn Post-Medieval copper-alloy gilt dagger hilt fitting and guard, probably of 17th or 18th century date.
Description:The hilt remains roughly t-shaped in plan, the body has a hollow and rectangular cross-section. Both ends expand slightly and have flared rims, the bottom rectangular end has a shallower rim with a flange 6.64mm long. The top rim is formed from a flat oval disc horizontally placed on top of the hilt. The main body of the hilt is slightly wasted and has moulded relief decoration on each face. The decoration is heavily worn but appears to be acanthus vines around an acanthus seed pod or similar element centrally placed and a trefoil leaf below.
The arms which formed the hand guard/quillon were attached each side of the fitting, just below the top and integrally cast. These bifurcate, the lower of which would have curved in a loop downwards, only stubs remain however.
