Tilbage

An early post medieval copper-alloy knife end cap or stop, dating to AD 1500-1600. The pommel is zoomorphic in design and stylised to make an animals head, possibly a dog or bear. Incised lines make a snub nose and a open mouth and across the brow. The eyes are indicated by two deep circular recesses. The hair or fur line is also marked using further incised lines across the head of the animal. At the base of the stop is a remnant of the iron tang of the knife.
